Casement Series
Collectively my work deals with the relationships between my family and me. While most recent work deals with creating connections and communication, this work is specifically in response to the passing of two family members within months of the other. The metaphoric window and the power of the photograph as object is significant as I think about the complex correlation between memory, loss, permanence, impermanence, clarity and obscurity, as well as communication and its absence. The use of additional materials allows me to further reflect on questions surrounding the photograph’s ability to engage these ideas.
I use a traditional large format 4x5 view camera and produce small meant to be viewed as intimate prints, which have been coated with varying thicknesses of beeswax.
